Speech by W. E. van Steenburgh at the Official Opening of BIO
On October 24, 1962, W.E. van Steenburgh gave an address at the special convocation at Dalhousie University on the occasion of the official opening of the Bedford Institute of Oceanography.
In this speech he outlined the importance of oceanography and collaborative effort then concluded
"..... I envision a period of expanding
endeavour leading to a mutually integrated and beneficial research program between
the Institute of Oceanography of Dalhousie University and the Bedford Institute of
Oceanography which will enhance the scientific stature of each, and contribute to the
solution of the many complex and difficult problems to face the oceanographer of the
future. "
